Hermes Agent 3D Model: Make 3D Models From Chat With Meshy

Hermes Agent 3D model creation is now an official plugin. Nous Research added Meshy to the Hermes Official Plugins collection in October 2026 (version 0.5.0 landed on 24 October), so you can type “make a low-poly treasure chest for Godot” and Hermes builds the model, textures it, and saves the file. It also turns a photo into a 3D model, rigs and animates characters, and gets models ready to 3D print. Below is how to install it, what it can make, how the credit limits stop surprise spending, and what the Desktop viewer adds. My video walkthrough is right under this intro.

What can a Hermes Agent 3D model plugin do?

The Meshy plugin README lists a long menu. Ask in plain English and Hermes picks the right Meshy tool:

• Text to 3D and image to 3D: describe it, or point at a photo.
• Texturing and retexturing, remeshing and UV unwrapping.
• Rigging and animation for characters, with a short preview video for rigged models.
• Format conversion and real-world resizing (for example, a mug at 10 cm).
• 2D concept images before you commit to a model.
• 3D-print prep: printability checks and repair, multicolour 3MF, splitting into printable parts and handing off to your slicer.

Under the hood it runs Meshy’s own first-party MCP server, plus a workflow skill that tells the agent to confirm costs, pick the output format first, and never re-create a task it isn’t sure about.

How to install the Meshy plugin

Two commands from the Nous plugin catalog:

hermes plugins install meshy
hermes plugins enable meshy

Then add your Meshy API key. In Hermes Desktop go to Settings → Plugins → Meshy, paste the key and save. The server restarts with the key on its own. Without Desktop, use the CLI:

hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY msy_...

You create the key at meshy.ai/developers/keys; the README says any paid Meshy plan can make one. You also need Node.js 18 or newer with npx, because the plugin starts Meshy’s server through npx. No editing config.yaml is needed.

Easier option: ask your agent, “Install and enable the Meshy plugin, then tell me where to paste my Meshy API key.”

Your first Hermes 3D model

Once the key is in, just ask. The README’s own examples:

• “Make a low-poly treasure chest for Godot.”
• “Turn ~/photos/mug.jpg into a 3D model and get it ready to print at 10 cm.”

A Meshy job takes minutes, not seconds. The plugin gives its server a 1,500-second call timeout so Hermes doesn’t cut the job off at its normal 300-second limit. In Telegram, Discord, Slack and other chat apps, Hermes replies “started, about N min”, frees up the chat, and comes back with the thumbnail as a photo and the model file as a document.

Files save to the folder the agent passes (the skill always passes one), so name a folder in your request if you want them in a project. Meshy’s download links expire after three days, so download anything you want to keep.

How the credit limits stop surprise spending

Most Meshy tools spend Meshy credits. The plugin marks Meshy’s server as untrusted, so Hermes asks before every call that creates, downloads or cancels something. Checking your balance, task status or the animation library runs without a prompt.

• Allow once covers one call. On builds after v0.22.5, Allow for this session and Always cover one tool for the chat or the profile.
• Each chat has a 200-credit spend limit. A call that would pass it always asks again, even for tools you allowed.
• Unattended runs (cron jobs, hermes chat -q, a gateway with no one to approve) can’t approve, so paid calls are refused there by default.

You can raise or remove the limit with a spend_limit setting in config.yaml. The README is blunt about the risk: with no limit and no prompts, an unattended run can spend without any cap. Keep the limit on unless you really need it off.

What Hermes Desktop adds

Turn on the plugin’s Desktop switch in Capabilities → Plugins and you get a proper 3D workspace:

• Inline 3D cards in the chat that you can orbit, zoom and view as a wireframe. A card can show live progress (“Meshy 38%”) while the job runs.
• A Download menu on every card listing each format Meshy produced: GLB, FBX, OBJ, STL and USDZ for a refined model. No extra credits.
• A Meshy 3D gallery of recent generations, searchable by prompt, with a Made from panel showing the prompt, settings and the chain of steps behind each model.
• A credit chip in the status bar that refreshes after every Meshy call.

Send models straight to Blender

The plugin has a Blender optimized copy setting (ask, always or never) and a Blender path setting, so Hermes can hand a lighter copy of the model to Blender for scene work. Pair it with the official Hermes Blender plugin and one agent can generate a model with Meshy, then place, light and render it in Blender.

Set a default detail level (game, mobile or detailed) in the plugin settings if you always want the same output, and the agent stops asking.

My verdict

If you make game assets, product mockups or 3D prints, this is the fastest way to go from an idea to a usable file without opening a 3D app. Install it, add your key, leave the 200-credit limit on, and let Hermes Agent 3D model generation do the modelling while you do the creative direction.
