Grok Bot Browser: How Your Bot Browses, Signs In and Hands Over

Grok Bot browser work happens on a cloud computer, not on your laptop. Every Bot on your account gets a real browser on one shared, always-on computer, so it can open sites, fill in forms, sign in and keep going while your laptop is closed. Since version 0.78.1 (27 October 2026) that browser also types one character at a time and moves the mouse on every website it fills in, like a person would. In the video below I show Grok Bot running AI agents faster than ever. Here’s exactly how the browser works, when it hands control back to you, and how to fix sites that block it, straight from xAI’s official docs.

Key takeaways

  • The browser runs on your Bots’ shared cloud computer, not your laptop.
  • Sign-ins persist and are shared by all your Bots.
  • Logins come from Vault, 1Password or a Secure Form; the Bot never sees the values.
  • CAPTCHAs, passkeys and SSO get handed to you, never bypassed.

What the Grok Bot browser is

The computer and apps guide says your Bots work from a persistent cloud computer with a browser, a command line and a filesystem. Work continues while your laptop is closed, and files, sign-ins and browser sessions stay put between tasks.

  • One computer, shared by all your Bots. Cookies and signed-in sessions are shared, so signing in for one Bot makes that session available to the others.
  • Each Bot gets its own screen. Several Bots can browse at the same time, but one Bot runs one computer-use task on its screen at a time.
  • Screens are not security boundaries. Don’t sign in to anything on the computer that another Bot on your account shouldn’t use.

The computer belongs to your user account, not to one Bot. Between users, isolation is strict: each user’s computer is dedicated and hardware-isolated.

Watch the browser work, or take over

Click the computer preview in the right-hand panel of a chat to watch clicks, typing, navigation and status live. You can leave the preview while the work carries on, and closing the app or your laptop doesn’t stop it.

The Bot hands the computer to you when a form can’t do the step:

  • Single sign-on or a passkey
  • A CAPTCHA it couldn’t get past
  • An approval on another device, or a QR code
  • A bank card verification
  • A site that explicitly requires a human

Open the computer, take control, finish only the blocked step, then tell the Bot to continue. On iPhone and Android you can do the same from the mobile app and hand back with I’m done.

How the browser signs in without seeing your password

The order is set in the docs. The Bot uses:

  • A login saved in Vault first
  • Then a connected password manager such as 1Password
  • Then a Secure Form it sends you in chat

Values from Vault and the Secure Form are filled into the page without the Bot seeing them. When a site emails a one-time code, the Bot can read it from a connected Gmail or Outlook account, or from its own inbox (see my Grok Bot email guide).

Never paste passwords or one-time codes into ordinary chat. Browser sessions persist, so you usually only sign in once. If a site expires sessions or asks for verification again, tell the Bot to pause and notify you rather than work around the check.

What changed in v0.78.1

The Grok Bot changelog for 0.78.1 (27 October 2026) lists several browser changes:

  • The Bot’s browser types one character at a time and moves the mouse on every website it fills in.
  • On Cloudflare, Coinbase, Gusto, YouTube, Railway, Google Ads, Meta Ads and TikTok for Business sign-in pages, the Bot offers that service’s connector instead.
  • Approved browser actions no longer fail on some Bot computers when the page hasn’t changed.
  • The computer view follows the browser tab the Bot brings to the front.

That connector offer matters. The docs say an app (connector) is more reliable than clicking through a website when one exists, so take it when it appears.

When a site blocks the Bot’s browser

The Bot’s computer reaches the internet through Cursor’s shared network, and some sites drop connections from it. The troubleshooting guide says Update, Recover and Reset don’t change this, so skip them. Use one of two switches under Settings → Computer → Your computer instead:

SettingWhat it does
Route traffic through this computerThe Bot’s browser uses your desktop’s connection, so the site sees your network and IP address. Works while the desktop app is open.
Execution on this computerThe Bot runs commands and scripts on your desktop instead of the cloud computer, with Ask every time or Always allow.

Only one of your computers routes at a time, and sites that resolve to a private or VPN address are blocked unless your organisation allows them (settings guide).

Teach the browser a task

When Teach a task is available on your account, you can record one browser workflow from the computer view, for up to ten minutes. The Bot turns the demo into a draft skill you review and test (skills guide). It doesn’t record microphone audio, but avoid showing secrets on screen while you record. The rollout is gradual, so the button may not be there yet.

Once the skill works on a one-time task, turn it into a routine so the Bot repeats the browser job on a schedule (more in my Grok Bot routines guide).

Safety rules for browser work

  • Avoid broad Auto-review rules like “allow everything in the browser”; the approvals guide warns that websites change over time.
  • Sign out of a service when Bots no longer need it, because sessions are shared.
  • Deleting a Bot doesn’t remove computer files or browser sessions; clean those up separately.
  • On Mac and Windows, the browser can use a hardware security key plugged into your desktop, with your approval each time. It isn’t supported on Linux yet.

My verdict

The browser is what lets Grok Bot handle the sites that have no app: forms, dashboards, portals and admin panels. Save logins in Vault, take the connector when the Bot offers it, step in for the CAPTCHA, and let the Grok Bot browser do the clicking while you get on with real work.

FAQ: grok bot browser

Does Grok Bot have its own browser?

Yes. Every Bot works from a persistent cloud computer with a browser, a command line and a filesystem, so it can browse and fill in forms while your laptop is closed.

Do I have to sign in for every Grok Bot task?

Usually not. Browser sessions persist and are shared by all your Bots, so signing in once for one Bot makes the session available to the others.

Can Grok Bot solve CAPTCHAs?

No. When it hits a CAPTCHA, a passkey, single sign-on or a site that requires a human, it hands you the computer to finish that step, then continues.

Does the Grok Bot see my passwords?

No. Logins from Vault, 1Password or a Secure Form are filled into the page without the Bot seeing the values. Never paste passwords into ordinary chat.

Why does a website time out for my Grok Bot?

Some sites drop connections from cloud computers. Turn on Route traffic through this computer under Settings, Computer, Your computer, so the site sees your own connection.

What changed in the Grok Bot browser in v0.78.1?

Since 27 October 2026 the browser types one character at a time and moves the mouse, and on some sign-in pages, like Cloudflare and Google Ads, it offers that service’s connector.
