Hermes Agent Cursor support means you can bring your whole Cursor setup into Hermes with one command. Since Hermes Agent v0.22.4 (21 October 2026), the agent-importers plugin behind hermes import-agent handles Cursor as well as OpenClaw, Claude Code and Codex CLI. It copies your global instructions, User Rules, MCP servers and skills, shows you a plan before writing anything, and never touches your keys. Below is exactly what moves, the commands, how to keep the two in sync, and what to do afterwards. My video is right under this intro.
Key takeaways
- One command:
hermes import-agent cursor(reads~/.cursor). - Moves AGENTS.md, User Rules, MCP servers and skills.
- Never imports API keys or credential files.
- Preview first, merges instead of replacing, and
--synckeeps it updated. - Want help moving your team onto agents? Claim a free strategy session.
What does the Hermes Agent Cursor import do?
The Import from Other Agents guide maps each part of your Cursor folder to its Hermes home:
| Cursor | Goes to in Hermes |
|---|---|
AGENTS.md (global instructions) | Memory entries in ~/.hermes/memories/MEMORY.md |
rules/*.md and rules/*.mdc (User Rules) | Memory entries in MEMORY.md |
mcp.json → mcpServers | mcp_servers in config.yaml |
skills/**/<name>/ (folders with SKILL.md) | ~/.hermes/skills/cursor-imports/<name>/ |
For .mdc rules, the frontmatter (description, globs, alwaysApply) is Cursor’s routing metadata, so it’s stripped and only the rule text comes over. Skills can sit in category folders: skills/shipping/land-it/ imports as cursor-imports/land-it/.
The easy way: let hermes setup do it
On a fresh install, hermes setup looks for ~/.cursor (and the OpenClaw, Claude Code and Codex folders) before anything else. When it finds one it asks whether to import your setup. Say yes and it installs the agent-importers plugin for you and runs the import, preview and confirmation included.
Find several agents? You pick which ones from a checklist. Have none, or say no, and nothing is installed.

The commands, by hand
Already set up? Install the plugin once per profile, then run the import:
hermes plugins install agent-importers
hermes import-agent cursor # import from ~/.cursor
hermes import-agent # auto-detect every agent it findsUseful flags from the docs, shown here with other sources as the docs do:
hermes import-agent claude-code --dry-run # preview only
hermes import-agent codex --source /path/to/.codex # custom location
hermes import-agent claude-code --overwrite --yes # replace conflicts, skip promptsEasier option: ask your agent, “Preview a hermes import-agent cursor run and tell me what would change before you apply it.”
What never gets imported
API keys and credentials. Credential files such as ~/.cursor/cli-config.json are never read. MCP server environment variables or headers with secret-looking names (anything like *_TOKEN, *_API_KEY or Authorization) are stripped and listed in the report, so you can add them back on purpose.
That also means the import brings your setup, not a model login. Run hermes setup to choose a model provider, or put your keys in ~/.hermes/.env.
How the import behaves
- Preview first, always. It prints the full plan before applying. In a non-interactive session it stops at the preview unless you pass
--yes. - Merges, not replaces. Memory entries are de-duplicated against your existing
MEMORY.md. - Conflicts are skipped. An MCP server or skill that already exists in Hermes is reported, not overwritten. Use
--overwriteto replace it. - Broken files don’t stop the run. A malformed file becomes one error in the report while everything else imports.
One catch for Cursor: two skills with the same name in different folders are reported as a conflict, so rename one if you want both.

Keep Cursor and Hermes in sync
Every successful Cursor import is recorded in ~/.hermes/import-sync.json. When you change your Cursor rules, skills or MCP servers later, pull the changes in with:
hermes import-agent --sync # re-import every changed source
hermes import-agent --sync --dry-run # preview what a sync would doSync skips anything unchanged, refreshes skills it imported before, and never overwrites a skill you created or edited yourself. The docs say it’s safe to run on a schedule, for example as a daily Hermes cron job.
My verdict
If you’ve built up rules, skills and MCP servers in Cursor, don’t rebuild them by hand. Run the dry run, check the plan, import, then add your keys back. With --sync on a schedule, Hermes Agent Cursor setups stay matched without any copy-paste.

FAQ: hermes agent cursor
Can Hermes Agent import my Cursor setup?
Yes. Since v0.22.4, hermes import-agent cursor (from the official agent-importers plugin) imports Cursor’s AGENTS.md, User Rules, MCP servers and skills into Hermes.
Does the import copy my Cursor API keys?
No. Credential files like ~/.cursor/cli-config.json are never read, and secret-looking MCP environment variables and headers are stripped and listed in the report.
Where do my Cursor rules go in Hermes?
AGENTS.md and your User Rules become memory entries in ~/.hermes/memories/MEMORY.md. The .mdc frontmatter is stripped and only the rule text is imported.
Will the import overwrite my existing Hermes setup?
No. It merges memory, skips any MCP server or skill that already exists and reports it as a conflict. Use –overwrite only if you want to replace them.
How do I keep Cursor and Hermes in sync?
Run hermes import-agent –sync. It re-imports only sources that changed and never overwrites skills you made yourself. You can schedule it as a daily cron job.
Do I need to install anything first?
The command comes from the agent-importers plugin. hermes setup installs it for you when it finds ~/.cursor, or run hermes plugins install agent-importers.
