Agentic SEO Skill: It Publishes, Not Just Writes (2026)

An agentic SEO skill doesn’t hand you a draft — it researches, writes, publishes, interlinks, indexes and then improves its own rules. Here’s the nine-step loop mine runs, and the parts that still need a human.

Short answer

  • Agentic means it acts — publishes and links, not just writes.
  • Mine runs a nine-step loop from grounding through to rewriting its own rules.
  • The publishing and linking steps are the unlock, not the writing.
  • Keyword choice, cannibalisation checks and fact-checking still need you.

What makes an SEO skill agentic

An agentic SEO skill doesn’t write and hand you a document. It acts. It researches, writes, publishes, links, submits for indexing, checks what happened, and updates its own rules — without you driving each step.

That’s the whole distinction. A writing prompt produces text you then have to do ten more things with. An agentic skill closes the loop.

Mine is the SEO half of my agent operating system. When I want content, I don’t open a document. I hand over the keyword and it goes.

Why take my word for it:

The loop my agentic SEO skill runs

  1. Ground. It pulls the real source — a transcript, my own test data — and refuses to proceed without one.
  2. Write. It produces several genuinely different articles for the keyword, each with its own angle, structure and FAQs.
  3. Enrich. Schema, click-optimised titles, relevant video embeds and comparison tables go on automatically.
  4. Link. Each article gets internal links to related posts plus cross-network links to its siblings.
  5. Deploy. It publishes straight to the sites. I don’t log in.
  6. Ladder. It goes back and edits older related posts to add inbound links to the new page.
  7. Index. Every live URL is submitted the same day.
  8. Verify. It checks the live pages actually rendered — embeds present, nothing broken.
  9. Improve. At the end of the batch it reviews what worked and writes the lessons back into itself.

Nine steps. Eight of them used to be my afternoon.

The publishing step is the real unlock

Everyone focuses on the writing. The writing was never the bottleneck.

The bottleneck was everything after it: formatting, uploading, picking internal links, adding schema, going back through old posts to add links, submitting URLs, checking it all rendered. That’s the work that quietly doesn’t get done, and it’s exactly the work that decides whether a page ranks.

I genuinely don’t log into my websites to publish any more. The agent does it. That sounds like a small convenience and it isn’t — it’s the difference between shipping a page a week and shipping properly optimised pages continuously.

Old way versus agentic

Where you still need a human

I’d be lying if I said this runs completely unattended, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

  • Keyword choice. The agent will happily write a brilliant article for a keyword that will never make you money.
  • Cannibalisation. Somebody has to check you’re not building a page that competes with one you already own.
  • Truth. Ground it in a real source and spot-check the claims. Automation multiplies whatever you feed it, including mistakes.
  • Judgement on the offer. What you recommend and how you position it is a business decision, not a writing task.

The skill removes the labour, not the strategy. That’s the right division.

Setting one up

  1. Get an agent that can actually act on your sites — read, write, publish, not just chat.
  2. Write your process down as explicit rules, including the steps you find boring.
  3. Add hard stops. Mine refuses to write without a real source.
  4. Wire in publishing and indexing, so the loop closes without you.
  5. Add the review step at the end and let the skill rewrite its own rules from what the data says.

The system I run it inside is covered in the Agentic OS dashboard, and the skill itself in my Claude AI SEO skill. If you want it ranking in AI answers as well as Google, see the GEO guide.

FAQ

What is an agentic SEO skill?

A skill that doesn’t just write — it researches, writes, publishes, interlinks, submits for indexing, verifies the live pages and updates its own rules from what worked.

How is it different from an AI writing tool?

A writing tool hands you text and leaves the other ten jobs to you. An agentic skill closes the loop through to indexed and linked.

Does it publish without me checking?

It can, and mine does. If you’re not comfortable with that, keep a review gate before deploy — the loop still saves you the formatting, linking and indexing work.

What still needs a human?

Keyword choice, cannibalisation checks, spot-checking facts, and deciding what you recommend. The skill removes the labour, not the strategy.

Do I need a specific agent to run it?

You need one that can act on your sites rather than only chat. Claude Code and Hermes both do this well.

Won’t automated publishing hurt quality?

Only if the rules are weak. Automation enforces your standard on every article, including the ones you’d rush at 11pm. Ground it in real sources and it raises the floor.

How many articles can it produce?

Realistically more than you should publish. Throughput stops being the constraint, which is why keyword selection becomes the thing that matters.

Can it update old content too?

Yes, and that’s one of the highest-value uses — going back through older posts to add links to newer ones is exactly the job nobody does manually.

The bottom line

The value isn’t in AI writing faster — it’s in closing the loop from keyword to indexed, linked and measured without you touching it. Keep the strategy, hand over the labour, and let the system rewrite its own rules from real data. That’s what an agentic SEO skill is actually for.
